The court in Hubei province, China, sentenced Li Gang, former head of the Discipline Inspection and Anti-Corruption Department of the Communist Party Central Committee, to 15 years in prison. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He was found guilty of accepting bribes amounting to 102 million yuan (approximately 14.4 million dollars). Additionally, the court imposed a fine of 6 million yuan (850 thousand dollars) on Li Gang and confiscated his illegally obtained income.
During the trial, it was revealed that from 1998 to 2024, Li Gang abused his position to accept bribes in exchange for various business contracts, land purchases, promotions, and other privileges. He committed these crimes while serving as deputy governor of Sichuan province and head of the organization department of the Yunnan provincial government.
Li Gang was detained in April 2024. During the investigation, he disclosed information about other corruption cases and admitted his mistakes.
For this reason, the court mitigated his sentence. Anti-corruption measures in China are very strict.
Many officials are even sentenced to death for serious crimes. Li Gang’s cooperation with the investigation, return of a large portion of illegally obtained funds, and remorse led to the reduction of his punishment.
The Chinese government is further strengthening its anti-corruption policy and striving to ensure the rule of law.
