Residents of Uzbekistan will have the opportunity to observe one of the brightest meteor showers — the Geminids — from the night of December 13 to the morning of December 14. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This information was announced in NASA's "What's Up: December 2025 Skywatching Tips" briefing. According to NASA, the peak of the meteor shower is expected to be observed on December 14 between 08:00 and 09:00 Tashkent time.
However, since this time coincides with dawn, it may be difficult to fully observe the peak intensity of the shower. Nevertheless, astronomers emphasize that the active phase of the shower continues several hours before and after the peak.
This provides an opportunity to watch meteors from midnight until dawn on December 14. The uniqueness of the Geminids lies in their bright and slow-moving meteors, which are visible even in city lights.
If the sky is clear and dark, up to 120 meteors per hour can be observed at the peak of activity. The Geminids are an annual meteor shower occurring in December, formed from particles left by the asteroid Phaethon.
While most meteor showers are associated with comets, the Geminids originate from an asteroid. This explains their high density and brightness.
For astronomy enthusiasts, this is a great opportunity to observe a unique event.
