
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, announced at the inauguration ceremony of energy projects that the financing of the Qambar-Ota-1 hydroelectric power station will begin in 2026. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This station is being constructed in Kyrgyzstan with cooperation from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It is known that in October last year, Bishkek and the World Bank each allocated 500 million US dollars for this project.
The head of state also highly appreciated the activities of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan within the framework of the "Green Corridor" project for supplying electricity to European countries. Additionally, the ICRAFT project for accounting greenhouse gases was launched in Uzbekistan.
This project was implemented with the support of the World Bank, resulting in a total recording of 23 million tons of greenhouse gases. The construction of the Qambar-Ota-1 HPP began in the summer of 2022.
The station has a capacity of 1.8 thousand MW and is capable of producing 5.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The price for 1 kilowatt-hour of electricity is planned to be around 5.15 cents.
Initially, 412.8 million Kyrgyz soms (5.2 million US dollars) were allocated for the project, and another 1.5 billion soms (18.9 million US dollars) will be directed towards the development of infrastructure around the station. The construction of the station is expected to be completed within 10 years.
