Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin expressed a firm stance on the ongoing discussions regarding migrants in the capital. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He spoke on the TVS channel, calling some citizens' criticisms of migrants unfounded. According to Sobyanin, claims about "violence and low qualifications" among migrants often do not reflect the truth.
Addressing those criticizing migrants, Sobyanin urged them to try doing the jobs migrants perform themselves. He said: “If they are really so active on this issue, let them take a broom and clean the streets of Moscow.
Even if they have higher education or a doctorate, let them try doing this work. But they do not do it.
So, who does this work?” According to the mayor, highly skilled and physically ready migrants are of great importance to Moscow's economy. At the same time, he emphasized that most Muscovites are unwilling to perform such jobs.
Sobyanin also noted that the number of migrants in the capital has remained unchanged since 2018, citing statistics from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and pointed out a decrease in crimes among migrants. According to him, robberies have decreased by 7.5 times, and murders by 2 times.
Improvements are also observed in theft and other crimes. Sobyanin stressed that before identifying which nationality committed a crime, it is necessary to solve and prove it.
At the same time, the mayor acknowledged that the issue of migrants in the capital should not be idealized. “Of course, a large number of arrivals requires additional control and order.
It is wrong to say everything is ideal,” he said. Sobyanin's statement further intensified discussions on the migrant issue.
He demonstrated that the Moscow leadership supports maintaining a balance between economic needs and public safety in migration policy.
