A major marathon held in Iran unexpectedly sparked widespread public debate. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In this running marathon organized on Kish Island, some women participated without hijabs, leading to the arrest of the event organizers. This was reported by “Iran International.”
Nearly 2,000 women and over 3,000 men took part in the marathon. Although some women ran wearing red T-shirts, not wearing a hijab caused intense discussions in the country.
A portion of society supported this situation as a pursuit of freedom by women and considered it a protest against the government's dress code. However, officials strongly condemned this situation.
They emphasized not only the violation of hijab rules but also that the marathon itself was “against public morality.” As a result, judicial authorities took measures against the marathon organizers and arrested them.
The hijab issue has become one of the pressing topics dividing Iranian society into two opposing groups in recent years. Sometimes the rules are relaxed, while at other times they become stricter again.
It should be recalled that in 2022, protests lasting several months across the country began after the death of Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for violating hijab rules. This event remains vivid in the collective memory of society.
Although the protests were suppressed by force, even today many women are observed not complying with the rules. This is causing the government to resort to new strict measures.
