Kazakhstan's Minister of Culture and Information, Aida Balayeva, announced that mass media in the country will be protected only within the framework of the law. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
She made this statement while commenting on the criminal case opened against the KazTag agency. It became known that the KazTag agency previously published materials concerning defrauded investors of the Freedom Finance company.
As a result, the criminal case was opened based on the application of the Freedom Finance company. The company stated that the information published by KazTag did not correspond to the truth.
Timur Turlov, CEO of Freedom Holding Corp, emphasized during a meeting with journalists that the KazTag agency published several dozen articles far from a neutral approach. According to Turlov, attempts at manipulation by the agency were observed.
He noted that he is trying to gather all evidence and that the company is acting within the law. Additionally, Freedom Finance's lawyer, Aleksandr Kamendrovskiy, stressed that the passivity of investigative authorities contradicts the principle of equality before the law and may weaken society's trust in the justice system.
He noted that a legitimate participant in the financial market is facing difficulties in combating defamatory articles. At the same time, he criticized the creation of artificial obstacles instead of ensuring legality and law and order.
