On December 12, a 6.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in the northeastern region of Japan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Reuters agency, the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 20 kilometers off the coast of Aomori Prefecture at 11:44 local time. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of a tsunami risk with waves up to 1 meter high.
Previously, on December 8, a stronger earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 was observed in this area. As a result of the recent tremors, 34 citizens sustained minor injuries, and some roads and buildings were damaged.
The government is calling on the public to remain alert and recommends preparing for situations similar to the major earthquake and tsunami of 2011. According to data, approximately 20,000 people died in that disaster.
Officials emphasize that there is a high possibility of an earthquake of magnitude 8 or higher occurring within the next week. Therefore, residents living in coastal areas are advised to strengthen safety measures.
In the summer of 2024, a warning was also issued about a potential strong earthquake in the Nankai Trough region. Following this warning, various video messages circulated on social media, but the government advises the public not to panic.
