Armed clashes between Thailand and Cambodia have been ongoing for more than a week. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The fighting did not stop on Sunday, December 14. Despite US President Donald Trump's statements calling on the parties to cease fire, the situation did not calm down.
Both countries continue to accuse each other of attacks. According to the Thai Ministry of Defense, Cambodia shelled several border areas.
Cambodia, on the other hand, accuses Thailand of attacking its territory with mortars and bombs. Due to the escalation of fighting, a curfew has been imposed in Thailand's border areas.
At the same time, Cambodia has closed its border crossing points. On December 12, US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with the prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia, urging the parties to immediately stop the shooting.
However, officials from both countries have not officially confirmed this call. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Chanvirakul stated that military actions will only cease once the country's security is fully ensured.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that to achieve peace, they will continue to adhere to previously signed international agreements. The latest clashes began on December 8, with both sides using rockets and artillery.
As of December 14, at least 25 people have died from both countries. Among the casualties are Thai soldiers and Cambodian civilians.
Similar clashes occurred in July, and temporary peace was achieved through US mediation. However, in November, Thailand accused Cambodia of violating the agreement after two soldiers were killed by a mine explosion at the border.
As a result, the situation has escalated again.
