The second round of the presidential election in Chile has marked the beginning of a new era in the country's political life. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In this election, Jose Antonio Kast, a representative of the Right-wing Republicans party known for his conservative views, achieved a confident victory. According to Deutsche Welle, Kast secured 58.61 percent of the voters' support.
Kast's main opponent, Janette Jara, a member of the Communist Party and the candidate of the center-left alliance, took second place with 41.39 percent of the vote. These results clearly demonstrated the sharp political divisions within Chilean society.
Jose Antonio Kast is well known to the public as a far-right politician. In his election program, he emphasized a strict policy against crime, strengthening security, and combating illegal migration as key priorities.
These issues received broad support especially among voters who place great importance on security. At the same time, some of Kast's statements sparked widespread public debate.
He positively evaluated certain aspects of the Augusto Pinochet era, who ruled Chile from 1973 to 1990. While this view was accepted by his supporters as firm leadership, it faced strong opposition from critics.
Jose Antonio Kast is recognized as a lawyer and experienced politician. In 2019, he founded the Republicans party and the analytical center called "Republican Ideas."
He served as a member of parliament from 2002 to 2018 and actively participated in the country's legislative processes. Kast's family background has also attracted public attention.
His father, Michael Kast, was born in Germany, served with the rank of lieutenant, then moved to Chile in 1950 and lived there. Jose Antonio Kast's victory in the election indicates an increased demand for conservative politics in Chile.
Now, the country's population is waiting to see how the new president will fulfill his pre-election promises. This process is expected to be a period of political and social changes for Chile.
