The court of the Republic of Kazakhstan has ruled to deport 16-year-old Timur Turkov, who fled from Russia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Turkov was forced to leave the country due to his views opposing war propaganda in Russia. In September, he reached Kazakhstan from the Komi Republic by hitchhiking and crossed the border illegally on foot.
The court found him guilty of this act and banned him from entering Kazakhstan for 5 years. Additionally, he was sentenced to serve a "restriction of freedom" punishment in Russia for another 6 months.
According to Timur, schools in Russia are being militarized. Senior students are being involved in funeral ceremonies for soldiers who died in the Russia–Ukraine war.
Several people from his village have died or gone missing in the war. His mother passed away due to coronavirus, and his father left the family.
Living with his grandfather and grandmother, Timur decided to leave Russia because of the political situation in the country. Timur crossed the border on foot, risking his life.
He traveled 17 kilometers overnight and lost consciousness due to exhaustion and dehydration. Later, he was found by Kazakh border guards and placed in a social center.
Representatives of the Russian consulate and FSB officers interrogated him. Now he is to be returned to Russia, but he fears facing security issues in his homeland due to his political views.
