As a result of the joint efforts of the Ombudsmen of Uzbekistan and Russia, 31 Uzbek students studying in Russia were saved from the risk of deportation. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Regarding this situation, the “Dunyo” news agency provided official information. It was revealed that the problem arose not due to the students' fault, but as a result of technical and organizational errors at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow.
The educational institution failed to submit documents related to extending the students' migration registration within the prescribed period. As a result, the students remained officially unregistered in Russia for more than 90 days.
According to the legislation, this situation entailed a fine of 40,000 rubles for each student and the risk of deportation from the country. In this unfortunate circumstance, the students appealed to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow for assistance.
The issue was promptly reviewed at the level of the Ombudsmen of Uzbekistan and Russia, and an official appeal was sent to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. As a result, appropriate instructions were given not to impose fines on the students and not to deport them.
After the investigation was completed, the stay period of all students in Russia was extended, and their migration status was restored. Notably, within the scope of this case, the rights of nearly 200 students from other CIS countries were also protected.
This incident once again confirmed the practical significance of the Ombudsman institution. Most importantly, the rights, future, and interests of the youth to receive education were timely protected.
