Uzbekistan imported 66 thousand tons of meat from Kazakhstan

Customs data for Kazakhstan for the year 2025 has been published. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to it, 1 kilogram of beef exported to Uzbekistan was sold at an average price of around 3 dollars. This was reported by the local publication “Cmn.kz”.
According to the figures, in 2025 Uzbekistan purchased a total of 66.1 thousand tons of beef and by-products from Kazakhstan for 189.9 million US dollars. This averages to 2.87 dollars per kilogram of meat.
At the same time, the price of beef in the domestic market of Kazakhstan has increased by more than 30%, reaching 4–4.5 thousand tenge per kilogram. Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Trade and Integration, Janel Kushukova, expressed skepticism about these figures.
She explained the large discrepancy between domestic and external prices, emphasizing that this data might be the result of a technical error. “Meat is not sold from state to state, but producers sell it based on contracts.
If the price in the domestic market is several times higher, exporting the product at 3 dollars is economically unprofitable,” she said. The Deputy Minister stressed the need for a thorough investigation of this issue and, if necessary, clarification with customs authorities.
Additionally, the Ministry of Trade acknowledged that beef prices are rising in Kazakhstan. According to Kushukova, the price increase is caused by the prolonged process of restoring livestock numbers and a sharp rise in demand from Uzbekistan.
According to experts, meat consumption in Uzbekistan has significantly increased in recent years. However, due to natural and geographical limitations, the country cannot expand its production volume to meet this level of demand.
Therefore, the demand for imports is increasing.
