The US government has approved the delivery of $11.1 billion worth of weapons to Taiwan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This decision is noted as the largest military aid package provided to the island nation. This agreement is the second major military deal during former US President Donald Trump's administration.
This deal was made at a time when China's political and military pressure on Taiwan has intensified. China considers Taiwan as its territory and strongly opposed this decision.
The aid package includes HIMARS rocket systems, howitzers, Javelin anti-tank missile systems, Altius kamikaze drones, and spare parts for other military equipment. Taiwan's Ministry of Defense stated that these weapons will enhance the country's defense capabilities and contribute to regional stability.
Currently, the agreement has been submitted to the US Congress. In theory, congressmen have the right to cancel or modify this deal, but there is widespread support for Taiwan in Congress.
Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te announced that an additional $40 billion defense budget will be allocated in the coming years. He emphasized that there will be no compromise on national security issues.
China sharply criticized this move by the US, stating that such arms deliveries will disrupt peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. China also called on the US to immediately stop military cooperation with Taiwan.
