On December 20, 2025, the US Armed Forces carried out a large-scale military operation against the ISIS terrorist group in Syrian territory. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
During this operation, the group's combat units, weapons depots, and critical infrastructure were destroyed. According to US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, this operation was aimed at delivering a serious blow to ISIS's activities in the region.
Named "Hawkeye Strike" by the Pentagon, this operation successfully eliminated over 70 targets. The US's modern fighter jets and attack helicopters actively participated in the operation.
The strikes targeted strategic points of terrorists in the Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Homs provinces. These military actions were carried out in response to an ambush organized by ISIS on December 13 against a joint US-Syrian patrol in the city of Palmyra.
During that incident, two American servicemen, one interpreter, and two Syrians were killed. Pete Hegseth called these actions "retaliatory strikes," emphasizing that the US will take firm measures against any force threatening its citizens.
The Donald Trump administration is conducting these operations in temporary coordination with the Syrian government. Additionally, the US continues to strengthen security measures.
Starting January 1, 2026, entry to the US will be banned for citizens of 20 countries, including Syria and Palestine. Trump also announced that he met with Syria's interim president Ahmad al-Shar’ani, during which counterterrorism issues were discussed.
The US military leadership stated that operations aimed at completely eliminating ISIS will continue. These measures are being implemented within the framework of strategic plans to ensure security in the region and reduce terrorist threats.
