On December 19, a serious incident occurred in Taiwan that severely affected public safety. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
At approximately 17:20 local time, a 27-year-old man threw smoke grenades and “Molotov cocktails” at one of the busiest metro stations. This caused panic and fear among the passengers at the station.
After that, he ran about 800 meters along the metro line, stabbing several people he encountered along the way. Upon reaching the second station, the attack continued: grenades were thrown there as well, and people were stabbed.
Following the attack, the suspect jumped down from the roof of a nearby building. He was taken to the hospital with severe injuries, but doctors were unable to save his life.
The number of fatalities from this incident reached four. Among the victims was a man who tried to stop the attack and showed courage.
He was taken to the hospital wounded but later died. According to official information, the suspect was a Taiwanese citizen named Chang Wen.
The country’s Prime Minister Cho Jung called this event a “deliberate crime.” According to preliminary investigation data, the suspect acted alone.
Following this incident, security measures were strengthened at railway and metro stations across Taiwan. Additional patrols were deployed and the number of inspections increased.
Crime rates in Taiwan are considered relatively low, and such violent incidents are rare. The last similar major event occurred in 2014.
At that time, four people died in the Taipei metro, and the perpetrator was later executed. Today’s attack was an unexpected severe blow to Taiwanese society.
