The Black Hawk Bridge, located over the Mississippi River in the United States and having served for 94 years, was deliberately demolished by explosion. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This bridge was built in 1931 and connected the city of Lansing in Iowa with the state of Wisconsin. The bridge was distinguished by its central arched span and two tall metal support towers.
However, due to the narrowness of the bridge, traffic accidents frequently occurred on it. Additionally, because of the riverbed's relief and the placement of the bridge supports, cargo ships sometimes collided with the bridge.
These problems limited the structure's service life and necessitated its replacement. In 2023, construction of a new bridge began to replace the old one.
The construction work is planned to be completed by spring 2027. To ensure safety during the construction process, the Black Hawk Bridge was closed to traffic twice.
Until the new bridge is put into operation, a temporary water crossing service will be organized to transport residents across the river. These measures are aimed at providing convenience for the local population and ensuring transportation safety.
