Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban made a sharp statement regarding the situation around Ukraine. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In his words, if Ukraine weakens as a state or completely collapses, this situation will negatively affect not only the region but also directly Hungary's interests. According to Orban, the war is not strengthening Ukraine; on the contrary, it is weakening it economically, socially, and infrastructurally.
For this reason, the most optimal path for Hungary is to maintain stability in the neighboring country. He said: “If Ukraine collapses, it will be a great disaster for Hungary.
Therefore, preventing this aligns with our national interests. War never strengthens a state; it only destroys.” Additionally, the Prime Minister emphasized that Hungary is currently providing practical assistance to Ukraine.
According to him, about 44 percent of the electricity consumed by Ukraine comes from Hungary. Furthermore, 58 percent of Ukraine’s gas imports are also supplied through Hungary.
Orban’s statement has sparked various debates in European political circles. Some evaluate his position as a pragmatic approach, while others call it an action based on geopolitical interests.
But one thing is clear: Hungary is not indifferent to Ukraine’s fate and does not hesitate to protect its own interests.
