Russia plans to build a power plant on the Moon within the next decade. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This project will be implemented as part of Russia's lunar program and aims to supply electricity to a scientific research center jointly operated by Russia and China. The main goal of the project is to establish long-term scientific activities on the Moon.
According to the Russian state space agency Roscosmos, the power plant is scheduled to be completed by 2036. This facility will provide a stable energy source for mobile equipment, scientific observation instruments, and other research infrastructure on the Moon.
Although specific technology details of the plant have not been disclosed, it is assumed that it will be based on nuclear energy due to the involvement of major Russian organizations in the nuclear energy sector. Roscosmos head Dmitry Bakanov emphasized that building a nuclear power plant on the Moon is one of Russia's important strategic objectives.
Experts believe that this project will help strengthen Russia's position in the space sector. Currently, the United States and China are actively participating in lunar research.
Russia's creation of a permanent energy source on the Moon will enable a transition from one-time flights to long-term scientific exploration.
