The updated peace plan presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has sparked significant discussions in Russia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Bloomberg agency, although the Kremlin sees this 20-point document as an important basis for negotiations, it stated that it does not accept its current form and that amendments are necessary. The main demands from the Russian side are twofold: firstly, to keep Ukraine militarily neutral and restrict its NATO membership, and secondly, to significantly reduce Ukraine's armed forces.
Specifically, while Zelenskiy's plan proposes limiting the Ukrainian army to 800,000 personnel, the Kremlin demands an even lower number. Additionally, issues such as the legal status of the Russian language, lifting sanctions against Russia, and the return of frozen assets are also important for Moscow.
Regarding the territorial issue, Zelenskiy's plan offers complex solutions. According to the plan, Russian troops should withdraw from the Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions, but the frontline in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson areas should remain frozen in its current state.
Moscow, however, demands the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donetsk. At the same time, a proposal is made to establish an agreement on security guarantees under international monitoring.
However, Russia has not completely rejected Zelenskiy's proposals. Experts believe that the Kremlin may be trying to avoid complicating relations with the new US President Donald Trump.
For this reason, Russia has indicated its readiness to continue negotiations by introducing its own conditions. According to this plan, could the war be stopped by 2026?
This question remains open.
