The US Department of State has announced that it is temporarily suspending the issuance of Diversity Visas (DV) that allow entry into the country. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
At the same time, applicants will continue to submit documents, participate in interviews, and new interview dates will continue to be scheduled. This was stated in an official statement by the Department of State.
According to the information, previously scheduled interviews will be held on time. However, for now, even those who successfully pass the interview will not be issued US entry visas.
The Department of State stated that it will regularly inform applicants about further changes regarding this program. It is worth recalling that in December, US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem proposed to suspend the DV-1 program intended for Green Card lottery winners.
This program has annually provided about 50,000 people with the opportunity to live and work in the US. In her statement, Noem emphasized that the program causes security-related problems.
According to her, a Portuguese individual associated with Brown University entered the US through the DV program eight years ago and is suspected of involvement in a criminal incident. It was noted that among those who died in this incident was a citizen of Uzbekistan.
At the same time, CBS television channel recalled that former US President Donald Trump was also against this program, considering it a threat to the country's security. However, supporters of the program expressed the opinion that the DV brings benefits to the economy and improves the image of the US.
