Researchers from Georgetown University (USA) studied the social status of women in 188 countries and found Afghanistan to be the worst country in the world for women. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The “Hasht e Subh Daily” publication reported on this. In the research report dated December 31, 2025, the lowest indicators for women's safety and rights were recorded in Afghanistan.
Following this country, Yemen, Sudan, Haiti, and Burundi were ranked. The social status of women in Afghanistan was assessed based on inclusivity, justice, and security criteria.
Women's safety and treatment in Afghanistan are significantly worse compared to other countries, and they are considered the most vulnerable group in society. In many cases, women in Afghanistan are deprived of the right to education and employment.
This situation limits their access to essential services and also complicates the delivery of humanitarian aid. As a result, Afghanistan ranked second to last after Yemen on the UN Gender Development Index.
Additionally, women's safety on the streets of Afghanistan is not ensured. The Taliban interim government strictly controls women's movements in public places.
This not only restricts women's freedom of movement but also increases the level of instability and unrest in the country.
