United Kingdom restricted advertisements of unhealthy foods

The United Kingdom has taken an important step in promoting healthy eating. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
A law restricting advertisements of food products high in fat, salt, and sugar has come into effect in the country. This decision primarily aims to combat obesity issues among children.
According to the new regulation, such products cannot be advertised on television before 9:00 PM, and their promotion on internet platforms is completely prohibited. Government representatives emphasize that this measure is intended to help parents raise a healthy generation.
The restrictions apply to 13 categories of products, including sugary drinks, chips, salted snacks, cookies, ready breakfasts, popcorn, chocolate, ice cream, chewing gum, sugary pastries, pizza, and frozen meals. Additionally, companies producing unhealthy foods are allowed to advertise their brands during times when children are watching, but showing the products themselves in the advertisements is strictly forbidden.
Many companies have begun adapting to the new rules. According to official data, over 22 percent of children entering primary school in the UK are overweight.
By the time they finish school, this figure reaches 36 percent. Moreover, one of the main reasons for doctor visits among children aged 5–9 is dental caries.
Experts believe that advertising strongly influences children's food choices and eating habits. The new restrictions aim to reduce the annual calorie intake of children by 7.2 billion and decrease the number of obese children by 20,000.
In the long term, this measure is expected to save £2 billion in healthcare costs. It is also worth noting that since 2018, the UK has imposed an additional tax on sugary soft drinks.
This is also considered an important step towards fostering a healthy lifestyle among the population.
