Kyrgyzstan plans to reconsider visa-free regime with the United States

Kyrgyzstan's Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baysalov has proposed reconsidering the visa-free regime for Americans due to the high bond requirement imposed by the United States on Kyrgyz citizens. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He expressed this opinion through social media. The issue was reported by "Kursiv.uz".
Baysalov emphasized that the new rules of the US State Department contradict the principle of reciprocity. According to him, visa policy should be based on mutual respect and cooperation between the two countries.
One social media user expressed concern about the consequences of this proposal, suggesting that the US might further restrict visa issuance to Kyrgyz citizens. He also proposed improving relations.
It is known that starting from January 21, 2024, citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will be required to pay a bond ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 when applying for a US B1/B2 visa (for business and tourism purposes). The exact amount will be determined by the consular officer during the interview.
The bond does not guarantee visa issuance. If the visa is denied or the rules of stay in the US are followed, the funds will be refunded.
