10 tons of cocaine seized in Atlanta

On January 12, the Spanish police and naval forces carried out a large-scale operation in the Atlantic Ocean. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
During this operation, nearly 10 tons of cocaine were seized from a cargo ship sailing under the Cameroonian flag. It was revealed that this narcotic substance was very carefully hidden among a salt cargo and placed in 294 bags.
Investigators determined that the ship had departed from Brazil and the cargo was being transported to Europe. At the end of the operation, the ship ran out of fuel and remained stationary at sea for almost 12 hours.
Afterwards, the Spanish rescue service took the ship to the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The police announced that a large international criminal group responsible for delivering cocaine from South America to Europe was behind this case.
During the operation, officers extracted the cocaine bags from among the salt cargo. The total value of the discovered narcotics is estimated to be around 400 million euros.
Additionally, firearms were found on board the ship, and 13 crew members were arrested. This operation was named "White Wave" and involved the Spanish police along with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the United Kingdom's National Crime Agency (NCA), the Brazilian Federal Police, and other international organizations.
The Spanish government described this operation as a historic blow against international drug trafficking. It should also be noted that due to Spain's close ties with Latin America, it is considered one of the main routes for drugs entering Europe.
For example, in 2024, 13 tons of cocaine were seized from a container ship arriving from Ecuador in the country.
