Martial law and mobilization extended in Ukraine

On January 14, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted draft laws to extend the martial law regime and general mobilization period in the country for another 90 days. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
These documents were submitted to the parliament by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to the adopted decision, the martial law regime will remain in effect for another 90 days starting from February 3, until May 4.
At least 226 deputies were required to vote in favor of this decision, and 330 deputies supported it. At the same time, the general mobilization period was also extended by 90 days in the same manner.
This decision was supported by 312 deputies. President Zelenskyy expressed his position on this matter in December 2025.
According to him, the war with Russia will not end until Ukraine receives sufficient security guarantees, and therefore martial law will not be lifted. Martial law was introduced in Ukraine due to Russia's large-scale invasion that began in February 2022 and has been in effect since then.
Decisions regarding general mobilization also came into force during that period. Additionally, in August 2025, the Ukrainian government allowed men aged 18–22 to leave the country, as reported by international media.
According to Reuters agency, the permission for men of this age group to cross the border freely was officially announced. In summary, Ukraine is currently not moving towards changing the legal regime under wartime conditions but rather extending it.
The next 90 days may be a decisive period for negotiations regarding the country's internal mobilization policy, the situation at the front, and external security guarantees.
