In 2025, the tourism sector reached a record level

The global tourism sector concluded 2025 with its highest figures ever. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the sector's contribution to the global economy reached nearly 10 trillion euros, accounting for 10.3 percent of the world's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This figure increased by 6.7 percent compared to the previous year.
The WTTC leadership emphasized the importance of tourism in the global economy, noting that this sector has become one of the largest employers worldwide. One of the organization's leaders, Gloria Guevara, stated that if tourism were considered a separate country, it would be one of the largest economies in the world.
During 2025, international travel increased significantly. More than 1.5 billion people traveled abroad, indicating a higher growth rate compared to 2024.
This growth signifies the full recovery of the tourism sector after the pandemic and its transition to a new stage of development. Europe remains the leading region in tourism.
The contribution of the tourism sector to the economy in the region reached 2.5 trillion euros, accounting for 10 percent of Europe's GDP. International observations show that Europe and some Asian countries, including Japan, have become major centers of tourist flows.
Within Europe, Spain's position stands out. In 2025, the country welcomed 97 million foreign tourists, setting a record result.
The overall impact of tourism on Spain's economy reached 260 billion euros, according to the WTTC. However, tourism growth in the USA was slower compared to other countries.
According to WTTC data, the number of foreign tourists visiting the country decreased by 6 percent, and foreign tourists' expenditures also declined. In conclusion, 2025 was a year full of historic achievements for the tourism sector.
However, some issues arose during this process, such as infrastructure overload, the risk of overtourism, and matters related to visa policies. In 2026, it will be an important task not only to increase the number of tourists but also to work on providing quality services, sustainable development, and creating favorable conditions.
