Scottish and Sphynx cats banned in the Netherlands

In the Netherlands, breeding, selling, or importing Scottish Fold and Sphynx cats is strictly prohibited. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This was reported by "The Nation." The decision was made due to serious genetic problems related to the appearance of these breeds.
It is noted that these measures are part of a broader policy aimed at improving animal welfare. Experts emphasize that the folded ear shape of Scottish cats is the result of a genetic mutation, which causes various defects in cartilage and joints.
As a result, cats may suffer from arthritis, chronic pain, as well as problems related to the tail and spine. In Sphynx cats, the lack of fur makes it difficult for them to maintain normal body temperature.
This increases their susceptibility to skin diseases and infections. The decision was supported by the Dutch Veterinary Association and the European Veterinary Association.
Additionally, showing cats of these breeds in any competitions or exhibitions is prohibited, with no exceptions allowed. Individuals who violate the rules will be fined 1500 euros.
Furthermore, chipped cats will remain under the care of their owners for the rest of their lives.
