Qurbonov sentenced to life imprisonment in Moscow terrorist attack case

The military court in Moscow sentenced Ahmadjon Qurbonov to life imprisonment in connection with the terror attack that resulted in the deaths of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the Russian Armed Forces' Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense Troops, and his assistant Ilya Polikarpov. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the court ruling, Qurbonov will serve the first 10 years in prison conditions, and the remaining term in a special regime colony. Additionally, he was fined 1 million rubles.
The investigation concluded that Qurbonov was the direct perpetrator of the terror attack. Three other individuals were also sentenced in this case.
Botukhan Tochiyev received 22 years, Ramazon Padiyev 18 years, and Robert Safaryan was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Qurbonov fully admitted his guilt in court and expressed remorse.
Safaryan partially admitted guilt, while Padiyev and Tochiyev denied the charges. According to the investigation materials, on the morning of December 17, 2024, an explosive device placed near the general's residence in Moscow was detonated.
The device was hidden inside an electric scooter, and as a result of the explosion, Igor Kirillov and Ilya Polikarpov were killed. Qurbonov was apprehended several hours after the incident.
During interrogation, he stated that he was recruited by Ukrainian special services and was promised $100,000 and the opportunity to leave for Europe in exchange for the crime. According to the investigation, Tochiyev and Padiyev rented a room in a hostel in the Moscow region for Qurbonov and planned to hide there after the attack.
This case is considered one of the most high-profile criminal cases related to the deaths of senior military officials in Russia. Whether there will be appeal proceedings in this case will be known in the coming days.
