Trump revived the idea of buying Greenland

US President Donald Trump brought the issue of Greenland back onto the agenda at the World Economic Forum in Davos. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He once again mentioned the idea of the United States purchasing the island and emphasized the need to start prompt negotiations on the matter. In his speech, Trump criticized Denmark, accusing Copenhagen of not being strong enough to ensure Greenland's security.
He stated that the US views Greenland as an important territory for national and international security. According to Trump, the island is closely connected to North America and is currently a large unprotected area.
He also assessed the decision to return Greenland to Denmark after World War II as a mistake. Trump responded to questions regarding the possibility of using military force.
He emphasized that there is no intention to use military force, but also noted that achieving the goal without excessive force might be difficult. These statements made the topic even more controversial.
According to the president, the proposal to buy Greenland is not a threat to NATO; on the contrary, it could serve to strengthen the alliance's security. He put forward the idea that "property rights are necessary for protection."
It is known that Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark. In recent weeks, Trump has made several statements on this issue.
However, the Greenland government and public have strongly opposed this proposal. In conclusion, the debates around Greenland are currently continuing at the level of diplomatic statements.
Nevertheless, this issue could affect relations between the US and Denmark, as well as dialogue between Europe and the US. Whether negotiations will truly begin in the future or if this will remain a tool of political pressure remains to be seen.
