A unique 3,563-carat sapphire found in Sri Lanka

A unique precious stone — a 3,563-carat purple "Pure Land Star" sapphire — was exhibited to the general public for the first time in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This stone is recognized as a historic innovation in the field of gemology due to its large size, unique optical properties, and rarity. Such a find is very rare worldwide and therefore attracts great interest.
According to information, this sapphire was discovered in 2023 in the city of Ratnapura, Sri Lanka. This region is known as the "capital of precious stones," where many gems are mined.
However, this find stands out due to its enormous scale and beauty. Interestingly, the stone was initially purchased as part of a batch of other precious stones, and only two years later was its uniqueness identified.
Afterwards, the owners decided to have the stone examined by two independent laboratories. According to experts, this sapphire possesses perfect asterism, meaning it creates a six-rayed star-like image when light falls on it.
This rare optical effect makes the stone even more valuable and places it among the rarest precious stones in the world. According to gemologist Ashan Amarasingen, such a feature is of great importance for any collector or person interested in gemology.
The initial valuation of the "Pure Land Star" sapphire is estimated to be between 300 million and 400 million dollars. This unique stone is expected to set new records in the precious stones market.
Currently, its owners are reviewing offers received for its sale, but it has been reported that they are not rushing to make a decision. This rare sapphire, exhibited in Colombo, is expected to spark significant discussions not only in the global market but also among collectors and precious stone enthusiasts.
