Murder in Shymkent: police negligence criticized

The horrific murder that occurred in the city of Shymkent, Kazakhstan, has shaken the entire country. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
On January 11, a girl named Nuroy Serikboy, residing in the city, was killed. According to the investigation, multiple stab wounds were found on her body.
28-year-old Sherkhan Aymakhon is suspected in this crime. He was arrested a few kilometers outside the city two days later.
The incident sparked widespread public discussion and outrage. According to Murat Abenov, a deputy of the Kazakhstan parliament, if the police had promptly responded to the appeals made by the girl's parents, this tragedy could have been prevented.
The deputy stated that the suspect had been stalking the girl for six months, attempted to kidnap her, but the police did not take the necessary measures. This case caught the attention of the country's leader, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The President instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs to thoroughly investigate the actions of the Shymkent police. As a result, the head of the Shymkent city police department and his deputy were dismissed from their positions.
Additionally, a criminal case was initiated against officials who were negligent in handling the appeals. Recently, Kazakhstan has strengthened laws against forced marriage and bride kidnapping.
Now, severe penalties are established for such crimes. However, the case related to Nuroy Serikboy showed that the existence of laws alone is not sufficient.
The most important factor is timely response to appeals and prevention of risks.
