Ukraine, Russia, and US negotiations have begun

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that representatives of Russia, Ukraine, and the US will hold the first trilateral consultation on January 23 in the United Arab Emirates. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Zelensky, this meeting is a “technical level” dialogue, and if the format proves effective, it could create new opportunities to discuss important issues. How will this trilateral format be beneficial?
In Zelensky’s view, such meetings themselves allow the parties to keep communication channels open. This can serve to develop a “roadmap” necessary for making major decisions in the future.
Earlier, the Reuters agency reported that Ukraine had expressed readiness to support the trilateral negotiations proposed by the US. At the same time, the visit of the US President’s special envoy Steve Whitkoff to Moscow was also of significant importance within these events.
According to Reuters, Whitkoff held talks with the Russian leadership about ways to stop the war. Additionally, regional meetings and discussions of future plans were also on the agenda.
The meeting starting on January 23 is expected to last two days. If the parties reach agreement on technical matters, favorable conditions will be created for political-level negotiations.
The main question remains: what results will these talks yield and how quickly will these results be implemented? The answer to this question will become clear in the coming days.
