Meloni: The structure of the Security Council needs to be reviewed

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has proposed that former US President Donald Trump reconsider the recently established structure of the Peace Council. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
It is said that the purpose of this international organization is to ensure the future of the Gaza Strip. This was reported by podrobno.uz.
At a joint press conference held in Rome on January 24 with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, representatives of the two countries emphasized that the governance model of the Peace Council contradicts the constitutional norms of European countries. The main problem for Rome and Berlin is that the Council's charter does not comply with European legislation.
According to Meloni and Merz, the current decision-making mechanism of the Council leads to restrictions on national sovereignty. They noted that such structures can only be accepted if constitutional amendments are made accordingly, demanding that the organization be made more inclusive and that equal rights be ensured for all member states.
However, despite legal disagreements, Giorgia Meloni called on her counterparts in the European Union to avoid conflicts with the United States. She proposed maintaining dialogue between Europe and the US and ensuring that Europe does not remain outside global political processes by promoting an approach based on the principle of "constructive pragmatism."
This position was also supported by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. She emphasized the need to adopt a firm but non-escalatory approach in relations with the Trump administration.
The Peace Council was officially established on January 22 within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos. US media are considering this council as an international organization that could serve as an alternative to the United Nations.
The charter, signed by leaders and representatives of 19 countries, granted the Council the status of an international organization. Uzbekistan is among the founding members of the organization.
According to Presidential Advisor Abdulaziz Kamilov, Uzbekistan's accession to this decision was based on national interests and a desire to resolve the conflict in Gaza through peaceful means.
