Annular Solar Eclipse Observed in Antarctica

A rare astronomical event – an annular total solar eclipse – was observed in the Antarctic region. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The press service of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute reported this. It is noted that this event occurred on February 17 in the Southern Hemisphere.
The total eclipse phase lasted more than two minutes, with the overall duration being four and a half hours. During the event, scientists from the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute managed to capture this spectacle.
According to experts, an annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is at a far distance from the Earth. In such a situation, the Moon does not completely cover the Sun, and the Sun appears as a ring.
Therefore, a bright ring-shaped view is observed, but it is not possible to see the solar corona or the stars around it. According to astronomers, such an eclipse can only be observed from certain areas.
At the “Mirny” station in Antarctica, only a few people managed to witness this event. This rare astronomical phenomenon has great significance for the scientific community.
