Deepfake fraud has tripled

With the development of digital technologies, new types of crime are emerging. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to cybersecurity experts, in 2025, losses worldwide due to fraud committed using deepfake technology reached 1.1 billion dollars. This figure, which has tripled compared to last year, is causing concern.
Social networks remain a convenient platform for fraudsters. More than 80 percent of the lost funds are linked to platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram.
Fraudsters use the likeness and voice of famous individuals to lure people into fake investment projects. For example, fake videos made in the names of the President of Poland and the Chancellor of Germany urged citizens to invest money in unknown platforms.
As a result, many people have fallen victim to deception. Another dangerous form of deepfake is "romantic fraud."
Criminals establish close relationships with victims and deceive them through fake audio and video. For instance, in France, a woman lost over 800 thousand euros to a fraudster impersonating a Hollywood actor.
This operation was actually carried out by a professional criminal group. Research shows that such fraud centers are mainly located in West Africa (Nigeria and Ghana) and Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines).
Romantic frauds cause not only financial damage but also seriously affect the mental state of individuals. Victims lose not only their money but also their trust in loved ones.
Have you encountered suspicious advertisements featuring famous people on social networks? Do you know how to distinguish deepfakes from real videos?
