The first baby born with a donor uterus in the United Kingdom

For the first time in the United Kingdom, a baby was born using a uterus transplanted from a deceased donor. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the BBC, the baby's mother is Greys Bell, around 30 years old, who was born without a uterus. Bell has MRKH syndrome, a condition that affects approximately 5,000 women in the UK.
Women born with this syndrome do not menstruate, but their ovaries function normally. Bell learned at age 16 that she would not be able to have children.
The only options for the couple were uterus transplantation or surrogacy. In June 2024, Bell received a donor uterus transplant at Churchill Hospital in Oxford.
The surgery lasted 10 hours. After the operation, they underwent IVF treatment at the Lister Fertility Clinic in London.
As a result, in December 2025, Bell gave birth to a son named Hugo at Queen Charlotte's Hospital in London. The baby weighed nearly 3.2 kilograms.
He is currently 10 weeks old. Bell described this process as the greatest miracle of her life.
She expressed gratitude to the donor and her family, emphasizing that they gave her the greatest gift of life. This news has brought great hope to women without a uterus.
The transplant performed on Bell is one of 10 such operations being carried out in the UK as part of clinical trials. So far, three transplants have been performed, with this being the first observed birth.
At the beginning of 2025, the first baby named Emi was born using a uterus from a living donor. The uterus was transplanted to her mother by her sister in January 2023.
Five more uterus transplants from close relatives are planned.
