Spain Recalled Its Ambassador from Israel

Diplomatic relations between Europe and the Middle East region have currently fallen to a historic low. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The recent and serious decisions of the Spanish government are causing a great stir across the entire international political arena. These events are also of significant importance for the people of Uzbekistan, who are closely monitoring changes in world politics.
The Zamin publication presents readers with full details of the escalating situation between Madrid and Tel Aviv. The Kingdom of Spain has made a decisive decision to reduce its official relations with the State of Israel to a minimal level.
The government has officially dismissed its ambassador to Israel, Anu Salomon. With this step, Madrid has downgraded its diplomatic mission in Tel Aviv from full embassy status to a temporary representation level.
The diplomatic confrontations did not arise overnight; this process has been developing over a long period. The chill in relations did not start yesterday or today.
In May 2024, Spain officially recognized the State of Palestine. In response, Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu recalled his ambassador from Madrid, and no new diplomat has been appointed to date.
In September 2025, Spain recalled its ambassador to the capital for consultations. Currently, the dismissal of the ambassador means that the highest level of the Spanish diplomatic corps is not present in Israel.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is one of the most outspoken leaders among Western countries criticizing Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip. He not only condemns the massacre of civilians but also promotes serious initiatives such as international restrictions and economic sanctions.
Government representatives openly accused Tel Aviv of violating human rights and conducting apartheid policies. On February 28, 2026, the military operation launched by the US and Israel against Iran further complicated the situation.
Spain sharply prohibited the use of its military bases on its territory for strikes against Iran. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares emphasized that our bases will not be used for purposes that bring disaster to humanity.
This decision angered US President Donald Trump. Although he threatened to cut all trade relations with Spain, Sanchez remains firm in his stance.
Spain’s independent and firm position may strongly influence other countries of the European Union as well. Despite Trump’s threats, Madrid’s refusal to back down should be seriously and positively assessed by our people.
This is an example of the struggle for security and justice.
