A referendum on the new Constitution was held in Kazakhstan

A nationwide referendum was held on March 15 of the current year in the Republic of Kazakhstan to approve a new draft Constitution. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Country officials assessed this event as a unique and comprehensively significant occurrence for the future political development of the state. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev cast his vote at polling station number 51, located in the Students' Palace in Astana.
During this process, the head of state emphasized that this day holds decisive importance for the country's destiny and referred to the proposed new Fundamental Law as a historical document. According to the President, the new Constitution creates stronger guarantees for protecting citizens' rights and freedoms.
At the same time, it serves to preserve Kazakhstan's territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev recalled that the previous Fundamental Law adopted in 1993 played a significant role in the country's development.
However, he stated that the time has come for a new revision in response to modern realities. He noted his active participation in the drafting process, including submitting proposals regarding the preamble and a number of legal norms.
The referendum was organized based on a presidential decree signed in February of the current year. Voters made decisions to approve or reject the draft announced in the media in February 2026.
The proposed reforms entail major institutional changes. For example, it is planned to introduce a unicameral Kurultai consisting of 145 deputies instead of the current bicameral parliament.
This voting is being assessed as one of the most important political events of the year in the country. Because it provides an opportunity to reshape the structure of state power and the constitutional system.
The results will determine whether the future governance model becomes a foundation for a new stage of national development.
