The Kremlin summoned the Moscow ambassador over Solovyov's insult

The Italian government has reacted seriously to the latest statements by Russia’s well-known television journalist Vladimir Solovyov. Zamin.uz reported this.
His remarks about Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni provoked strong outrage in Rome. On his television show, Solovyov used insulting and harsh language toward Meloni.
These statements were widely covered in the Italian media and drew heavy criticism across the country. The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarded the incident as a serious diplomatic failure.
Minister Antonio Tajani summoned the ambassador in Moscow to the ministry and lodged an official protest. He emphasized that Solovyov’s words went beyond the bounds of political criticism and amounted to sharp insults against the prime minister.
Tajani also stated that full support for Giorgia Meloni had been expressed on behalf of the Italian government and people. Italian President Sergio Mattarella likewise paid special attention to the incident.
In a letter to the prime minister, he expressed confidence in and respect for the head of government. The president’s move was seen in Italian political culture as a demonstration of respect and unity toward the country’s leader.
So far, there has been no official comment from the Russian side. However, Solovyov’s previous statements have also exacerbated relations with Western countries.
This incident has created a new spike in diplomatic tensions between the two states. Some members of the Italian parliament are proposing additional sanctions against Russia.
International observers view the situation as part of an intense information war. In their view, the statements are meant to send a message to both domestic and foreign audiences.
Yet this approach clearly has no place in diplomatic relations. The Italian government has openly declared it will not tolerate such incidents.
