New details have emerged in the investigation into the horrific tragedy in Turkey's Kahramanmaraş province. Pinar Peyman Mersinli, the mother of the teenager who carried out an armed attack on a school and claimed the lives of nine innocent people, has been officially arrested.

According to the local prosecutor's office, the woman is accused of being indifferent to serious changes in her son's mental state and ignoring strict warnings from specialists. This negligence is seen as the ultimate cause of the irreparable tragedy and the deaths of many people.

The bloody incident at Ayser Calik Secondary School resulted in the deaths of one teacher and eight citizens, while twenty-one others sustained various injuries. The investigation revealed that the attacker, Isa Aras Mersinli, had undergone medical examinations long before the event.

Specialists identified serious mental health issues and provided a clear diagnosis. Two experienced psychologists repeatedly emphasized to the mother that the boy needed immediate treatment in a specialized hospital.

However, Pinar Peyman Mersinli, who herself works in the education sector, rejected these recommendations and failed to seek treatment for her son. After reviewing the case, the court concluded that the mother's actions showed signs of negligence and a reckless disregard for her responsibilities.

An official statement noted that if the mother had followed the doctors' instructions and sought timely medical help, this horrific crime could have been prevented. The Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, considering that the mother's negligence indirectly paved the way for the loss of lives, ordered her detention.

A large-scale investigation is currently ongoing, and a legal assessment of all details of the incident is expected.
