Germany Decides on Radical Reform of Its Defense System

Germany, considered Europe's economic leader, has decided to make a fundamental shift in its security and defense system, Zamin.uz reports. For the first time since the end of World War II, Berlin has announced a new and decisive strategy aimed at fundamentally reforming the country's defense capabilities.
This document will define the future shape of the German armed forces — the Bundeswehr — and is expected to alter the balance of security on the continent. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, at an official presentation in Berlin, identified Russia as the greatest threat to stability in Europe.
The Minister noted that Moscow is not only rapidly increasing its military potential but is also preparing for a direct military confrontation with the North Atlantic Alliance. Berlin is seriously concerned that the Kremlin views military force as a primary tool for achieving its political interests and is attempting to fracture the alliance between Europe and the United States.
According to the new military strategy, the size and combat readiness of the German armed forces will take center stage. While more than 184,000 soldiers currently serve in the country's army, the new plan envisions increasing the number of troops to 460,000.
Such large-scale mobilization and expansion of the army are considered necessary to effectively repel any potential aggression from Russia. At the same time, the German government has identified countering hybrid attacks — a new manifestation of modern warfare — as one of its primary tasks.
In response to constant threats such as cyberattacks, various acts of sabotage, disinformation, and espionage, there are plans to increase military potential in space and cyberspace. The goal is to achieve complete superiority over the adversary not only on the battlefield but also in the realms of information and technology.
Significant changes are also expected in the armament of the army. Germany plans to purchase modern F-35 fighter jets and JASSM-ER cruise missiles with a range of up to a thousand kilometers to expand its capability for precision strikes on long-range targets.
Additionally, the country's air defense system will be completely updated in a multi-level format. Whether Berlin's historic decision will serve to ensure European security or trigger a new arms race, only time will tell.
