The mayor of the Mexican city of Tampico has gone swimming with crocodiles to wish fishermen good luck

In the Mexican city of San Pedro Uamelula, an unusual tradition that has been preserved for over two centuries was carried out once again, as reported by Zamin.uz.
During this ancient ritual, the city’s mayor, Viktor Xyugo Sosa, symbolically married a crocodile known as the “little princess.” According to local publications, the event holds great significance for the community and has been passed down through generations.
According to local folklore and beliefs, this unusual ceremony represents harmony between humanity and the forces of nature. It is believed that the mayor’s symbolic union with the crocodile brings good fortune to fishermen, ensures abundance in rivers and seas, and ensures the abundance of fish in rivers and seas, as well as a bountiful harvest.
For this reason, the tradition is celebrated each year with great enthusiasm and special preparations. Before the ceremony begins, the crocodile undergoes specific religious rites and is dressed in wedding attire similar to that of a bride.
To ensure the safety of participants and spectators, the animal’s jaws are temporarily tied shut. Afterward, the crocodile is paraded through the city streets to the rhythm of national music, and finally, the symbolic wedding ceremony with the mayor is performed.
