Two Uzbek nationals were arrested in Thailand with 26 kilograms of cannabis

At Phuket International Airport, two citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan were detained by law enforcement authorities on suspicion of attempting to smuggle narcotics out of the country. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
During the inspection, it was discovered that their luggage contained more than 26 kilograms of cannabis products. According to official information, the 26-year-old individuals are suspected of attempting to covertly transport prohibited substances through customs control and remove them from the country.
The incident occurred on July 1 in the airport’s cargo inspection area. Customs officers became suspicious while examining passengers’ suitcases and noticed unusual odors.
As a result, vacuum-sealed packages containing dried cannabis flowers, special resin, and various processed products derived from the plant were seized as evidence. During the inspection of the first suspect’s luggage, illegal substances were found in two out of four bags belonging to him.
Specifically, nine separate packages contained a total of 9.8 kilograms of dried plant material and over one kilogram of processed products. The second suspect’s suitcases yielded a similar amount of dried cannabis, more than four kilograms of resin, and two kilograms of other substances.
Thus, the total weight of the seized cargo exceeded 26 kilograms. Currently, these individuals have been charged under Thailand’s 2017 Customs Act and the Narcotics Act, based on which fines have been imposed.
According to Thai law, such violations may result in substantial fines or long-term imprisonment. The detained citizens and all evidence have been handed over to the local police department for further investigation.
Thai authorities have once again reminded the public that attempting to export cannabis products without proper authorization is a serious crime. In recent months, similar incidents involving foreign tourists have increased, leading to intensified surveillance measures at Phuket Airport.
Investigative actions are ongoing.
