In the Syrian capital of Damascus, near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron was staying, several powerful explosions occurred. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to security service sources, the Reuters news agency reported the incident. According to eyewitnesses, consecutive explosion sounds were heard near the hotel, and thick smoke rose in the area.
Following the incident, security personnel immediately arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and temporarily blocked access routes. Additionally, security measures in the city were strengthened.
According to an official statement from the Élysée Palace, the explosions did not occur during the movement of the French president’s convoy. Journalists accompanying Macron also confirmed that they heard no suspicious noises or explosion sounds during the earlier official events.
This indicates that the head of state’s security was fully ensured. Shortly afterward, Emmanuel Macron held an official meeting with Syrian President Ahmad ash-Shara’a at the presidential palace.
In this way, Macron became the first European head of state to visit Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in 2024. This visit is regarded as an important step toward understanding the new political situation in the region and establishing diplomatic relations.
According to the latest information from Syrian authorities, a total of eighteen people sustained shrapnel injuries as a result of the explosions. It is reported that among the injured are four police officers.
Images circulating on social media show burning vehicles and scattered debris on the streets. Security service sources stated that the explosive devices were placed in a trash container and in a vehicle near the hotel.
So far, no precise information has been available regarding fatalities resulting from the incident. Furthermore, no armed group or organization has claimed responsibility for this act of violence.
Government authorities are conducting a large-scale investigation and inquiry into the incident. Surveillance has been increased on the streets of Damascus, and it is reported that the situation is under full control.
