A Canadian couple, Anita and Brad, found that romance is not only an event that happens in movies or on the pages of books, but also in real life. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In September 2012, during a romantic trip on Bell Island in Newfoundland, they placed a letter expressing their love in a bottle and threw it into the ocean. In the letter, they wrote about the cozy dinner, wine, and their affection for each other, and asked whoever found it to call them.
This bottle traveled approximately 3200 kilometers along the Atlantic Ocean for 13 years before being found in Scraggane Bay, County Kerry, on the west coast of Ireland. It was spotted by Irishmen Kate and John Gay, who were participating in a cleanup event.
They opened the bottle, read the letter inside, and tried to contact the couple, but there was no answer to the phone number. Kate and John posted about the event on the social media page of the “Maharees Heritage and Conservation” ecological organization.
The post quickly spread, and with the help of friends in Canada, the letter's owners, Anita and Brad Squairs, were found. They are now a family with three children living in Newfoundland.
Anita works as a nurse in the healthcare field, while Brad recently retired from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In an interview with The Guardian, Brad mentioned that the last two days had been very surprising for them.
He said that while putting his little son to sleep, his phone kept ringing incessantly. Anita experienced a similar situation in another room.
In an interview with Ireland's RTÉ radio, Brad emphasized that at that time they were experiencing their youthful love, and now they are adults who have preserved that love. He expressed a desire to make new friends and visit Ireland soon to see the beach where the bottle was found.
Marta Farrell, head of the Maharees Conservation Association, believes that this event has inspired other couples in Canada to share their stories with others. More stories about “bottle letters” sent across the Atlantic Ocean are emerging.
This event shows us that memories can be preserved and used to connect people around the world. Through one bottle, a few lines, and deep feelings, hearts united, continents connected.
Love has proven that it can overcome time, distance, and ocean waves. The story of Anita and Brad confirms that there is still room for sincerity and romance in the modern world.
