Japanese scientists have discovered gene therapy for obesity and diabetes
Japanese scientists have achieved an important discovery that could usher in a new era in the treatment of obesity and diabetes. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

Experts from Osaka University proposed a one-time gene therapy method, unlike conventional weight loss medications and regular injections. In this method, instead of eliminating harmful mutations, a special gene is introduced into the organism.

This gene ensures the production of the GLP-1 hormone substitute, exenatide. Currently, exenatide medications are administered in regular injection form, which causes discomfort for patients.

As the research leader Keyichiro Suzuki noted, the new approach combines the advantages of gene therapy and biological preparations, adapting the body for long-term production of beneficial substances. The research results showed that once the necessary gene is introduced, cells continue to produce the required substance on their own for several months.

This eliminates the need for constant injections. In trials, mice with the gene introduced showed stable and continuous levels of exenatide in their blood.

As a result, the mice consumed less food, weight gain slowed down, and blood glucose levels improved. Additionally, no adverse effects were detected.

Scientists emphasize that this method could be effective not only for obesity but also for type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases. If the results of the new research are confirmed, a single gene therapy method could free patients from constant injections and significantly improve their quality of life.

In the future, new medications that provide a continuous effect and replace regular injections are expected to be developed based on this technology. This achievement could play a crucial role in reducing the epidemic of diabetes and obesity.

This scientific revolution initiated by Japanese scientists is opening new prospects for medicine worldwide.
