The health of Pope Francis has deteriorated
On March 3, Pope Francis experienced serious breathing problems. According to CBS News, he felt "acute respiratory failure" twice during the day. Therefore, doctors performed two bronchoscopy procedures to alleviate his breathing difficulties. This condition arose from mucus accumulation in the bronchi and bronchospasm.

Medical diagnosis and treatment

As a result of examinations, the Pope was diagnosed with a disease that progressed from bronchitis to pneumonia. For this reason, he was hospitalized. His condition is currently assessed as moderate.

Previously, on February 14, 2025, Francis was hospitalized due to breathing problems and mild fever. On February 18, he was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, which is a concerning condition for any patient of his age.

A look at health-related issues

Since Pope Francis took over the leadership of the church in 2013, this marks his fourth hospitalization. He underwent serious abdominal surgery in 2021. Additionally, in 2023, he underwent another operation to treat scar tissue and an abdominal hernia.

Due to a serious illness in his youth, Francis had part of his lung removed, making him prone to respiratory issues. He also has knee problems, which have forced him to use a wheelchair and a cane in recent years.

The health of the Pope is of significant importance to Catholics around the world and his followers. Therefore, his medical condition is being regularly monitored, and doctors are taking necessary measures for his recovery.
