Yandex has started testing a new system in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan to make urban traffic more understandable and safer. This was reported by Upl.uz.
This was reported by the Pik Skartaris channel on Telegram. Based on the new solution, Yandex Maps and Yandex Navigator applications will display traffic light signals in real-time.
Currently, the test is being conducted at the intersection of Amir Temur Avenue and Tiklanish and Gulyor streets in Tashkent. If the test is successful, this system is planned to be expanded throughout the capital.
The main goal of this innovation is to create convenience for drivers. It is often difficult to see traffic light signals clearly in Tashkent.
Reasons for this may include sunlight glaring, large vehicles obstructing visibility, or other obstacles. In such situations, the navigator acts as the driver’s “second eye,” reducing stress and anxiety levels for drivers, especially beginners.
Additionally, this technology offers opportunities for further development in the future. For example, timers could be added to the application to indicate the time remaining until the traffic light changes to green or red.
Since there are currently few such timers in Tashkent, the “digital timer” allows drivers to anticipate signal changes through the navigator. This helps to: - plan movements by anticipating signal changes; - reduce sudden braking, which decreases the risk of accidents and smooths traffic; - decrease the number of conflicts at road intersections; - help save fuel.
The digitization of traffic lights is important not only for individual drivers but also for the entire urban transport system. This technology allows city services to better anticipate traffic jams and optimize traffic routes, resulting in improved transport logistics and reduced road congestion.
Thus, it can be said that the testing of the new system has started well. Now we await its implementation throughout Tashkent.
It can also be seen through a video demonstrating its practical operation.
