Nearly 3 thousand micro HPPs will be built in Uzbekistan in two years
Comprehensive reforms are being implemented in the energy sector to sustainably meet the growing demand for electricity in Uzbekistan's population and economy. Detailed information was provided in a new report presented to the President.

Electricity consumption increased by 30% in 5 years
In the last five years, electricity production in Uzbekistan reached 81.5 billion kWh, which means a 30 percent increase.
At the same time, according to calculations, the demand for electricity is expected to rise to 121 billion kWh by 2035.

These figures indicate the need to shape energy policy with a long-term perspective. Therefore, balanced development is necessary in all areas – both traditional and "green" sources.

"Green energy" – a strategic direction
The goal set by the President:
To increase the share of renewable sources in electricity to 54 percent by 2030.

In this regard, the main focus is on:
- Hydropower (HPPs, micro HPPs).
- Wind and solar power plants.
- Nuclear energy.

2,983 micro HPPs: great results, small format
In 2025–2026:
- 2,983 micro HPPs will be built.
- Total capacity: 167 megawatts.
- 500 million kWh of clean energy will be produced.
- 151 million m³ of natural gas will be saved.
- 1,200 people will work in construction, and 520 will have permanent jobs.

In just 2024:
- The construction of 1,185 micro HPPs is planned.
- Most of them will be implemented by private entrepreneurs.

Nuclear energy: towards a safe and stable future
A project is underway to build a small-capacity nuclear power plant as a new energy source.

Each stage – from design to construction – will be carried out under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Additionally:
- The most advanced technologies and safety standards will be implemented.
- Issues of training specialized personnel and technology transfer are being considered.

Efficiency and reliability in electricity supply are crucial
The President demanded that all plans be evaluated based on this responsibility:

- Timely commissioning of infrastructure.
- Continuous electricity supply to the economy and the population.
- Creating jobs and improving the investment environment.

What do you think: how strategically important are nuclear and "green energy" sources for the country?
