The European Football Associations Union (UEFA) opposed the changes to game rules that the IFAB organization is dreaming of. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
This was reported by the British publication The Times. Earlier, it became known that the International Football Association Board planned to give referees more authority regarding the VAR system.
This includes changing decisions on incorrect corner kicks and issuing a second yellow card. It was also discussed that the possibility of re-taking a penalty kick might be abolished.
These changes were intended to be tested at the 2026 World Cup. UEFA is dissatisfied that they were not consulted about the previous changes.
Additionally, there are concerns that the new powers of video referees could lead to spending more time on episodes during the game. For this reason, UEFA is opposing such updates.
